Privacy policy

TravBud is operated by BlueCurrent WebStudios (“we”, “us”). We are the responsible party for personal information processed through TravBud. Contact: Ulrich Lategan, info@ulilategan.co.za, Stellenbosch, 7600.

Information we process

We process account and contact information, authentication and security records, trip membership and invitations, budgets, expenses, transfers, notes, device/session information, notification preferences, audit records, and information you voluntarily add. Receipt images and location details are processed only when you choose to provide them. TravBud does not store passkey private keys.

Why and on what basis

We use information to provide the requested travel-budget service; authenticate and secure accounts; synchronise offline records; send invitations and selected reminders; provide support; prevent abuse; meet legal obligations; and improve reliability. Processing is limited to contractual necessity, consent where required, compliance with law, and legitimate interests that do not override your rights.

Sharing

Trip information is shared with companions according to the trip’s visibility settings. We may use hosting, email, backup, and security service providers under appropriate confidentiality and processing terms. We do not sell personal information. We disclose information where lawfully required or necessary to protect users and the service.

International processing

If a provider processes information outside South Africa, we will use a lawful transfer basis and require protection substantially similar to POPIA.

Retention and security

We retain information only while needed for the service, security, dispute resolution, legal requirements, and documented backup cycles. Financial history uses reversal entries rather than silent destructive changes. We use access controls, encryption in transit, password hashing, protected server configuration, session controls, audit logging, and restricted backups. No system can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

Subject to POPIA, you may request access, correction, deletion where applicable, objection to certain processing, restriction, and information about recipients. You may withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing. Contact the Information Officer above. We may need to verify your identity before acting.

Complaints

Please contact us first so we can investigate. You may also complain to the South African Information Regulator through its complaints service. The Regulator lists enquiries@inforegulator.org.za and 010 023 5200.

Children and changes

TravBud is not directed to children and must not be used to process a child’s information without lawful authority. Material policy changes will be communicated in the app or by email. The current version remains available here.

This operational policy was prepared with reference to South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. Independent legal review is recommended before commercial launch.
